LCA / Climate impact

What environmental impact does a piece of leather have on the world? This is what a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) can measure.

A Life Cycle Assessment is an analysis technique to assess environmental impacts of a product from farm level to finished leather. Including all stages such as methane, energy use, processing, transport etc.

Through our traceability, back to the birth of the single animal, we hold all data which should be included, to have the accurate LCA calculation on our leather. Therefore, we start at farm level when calculating the carbon footprint. On a scope 3 assessment we collect all data and make sure, that the hide part is taken into calculation until semi-finished stage at our tannery. Together with the finishing tanneries we can complete the full impact on the finished leather -based on the same calculation method. Our method is PEF compliant.

Reducing CO2 emissions

Knowing the baseline makes it possible to set targets on how to improve and co-create a better sustainable tomorrow.

Our tannery, Scan-Hide, has a target of reducing CO2 emissions from its production by 50% by 2030 and to become CO2 neutral by 2050.

Around 31% of Danish Crown’s Danish cattle come from farms that have joined the company’s sustainability program Climate Track. As part of the program, the baseline CO2 emissions for each farm are calculated and the farmers set three-year targets to
